Compress an image thoughtfully

Reduce file weight while keeping the detail your image needs.

1. Decide what matters

A photo for a small web preview needs less detail than a document containing fine text. Start with the original file and decide whether your priority is visual quality or a destination’s file-size limit.

If the image has far more pixels than you need, resize it as part of the same pass. Quality and dimensions solve different problems.

2. Set the optimization method

In Settings, choose Set image quality to control the quality preference. Start near the default value and lower it in small steps for JPEG or supported WebP output. Watch for changes around faces, lettering, edges and smooth gradients.

Alternatively, choose Limit file size, enter a target and select the unit. This asks the optimizer to aim for that size; it cannot guarantee that every image will meet it. Keep the selected unit consistent while comparing attempts.

3. Process and inspect

Choose dimensions and output format, then use Browse, drag and drop, or paste an image file. Processing starts immediately. Images shows the resulting file size and dimensions.

Download a copy and inspect it at the size where it will be used. Some already optimized images will not become smaller. If the result is still too large, reduce dimensions or try a suitable different format. To test new settings, add the original again; existing results are not recalculated.

4. Save the version you prefer

Use the individual Download action, or Prepare ZIP for several results and then select the ready archive link. Keep the original until you have checked the saved files.
